Baking Cakes Can Be Great Fun

Baking cakes and buns can be a great way to spend some time with your children.  The relatively simple recipes for making cakes, buns and cupcakes mean your children can be involved throughout the baking.  Getting them to help you measure out the ingredients, mix them together and line the cake tins can teach them valuable skills such as following a guided recipe and learning about measurements as well as being fun.

Making icing is great fun and can be completed by your children safely, they’ll have a fantastic time decorating their cupcakes and buns, and if they behave they can lick the spoon!  For extra fun when decorating cakes you can pick up sugar toppings for cakes at any local supermarket, your kids can even have a competition to see who can decorate the best cake!

Just remember that when cooking with children that any knives are only handled by adults and keep them away from the oven.

So get the recipe books out, get the right ingredients and get baking, you and your children will have a great day, and if the sun is shining head out for a picnic of cakes, cupcakes and juice in the local park.
